Plastic Surgery Abroad
Going for plastic surgery abroad is a growing trend among people who want professional cosmetic work on their face or body while saving money–and maybe getting a nice vacation in the bargain.
Cosmetic tourism is a branch of so-called medical tourism or medical travel that has gained great popularity in recent years. Brazil is a noted magnet for women and men alike looking for safe, quality plastic surgery abroad. And what better exotic locale for recuperation from a cosmetic procedure than on the famous beaches of Rio?
However, other countries are also drawing their share of vacationers seeking such procedures as face lifts, nose, ear, chin or eyelid reconstruction, or body augmentation. Among these we might note the Czech Republic, Thailand, Costa Rica, Argentina, Greece and South Africa as places which do a thriving business in plastic surgery clinics that cater to medical tourists from overseas.
So what is the attraction in having plastic surgery abroad? Well, besides the opportunity to combine a bit of sight seeing with getting one’s features improved or enhanced, the possibility of enjoying big cost savings is the big one.
Depending on the procedure and the country visited, it is often possible to arrange a package deal that includes airfare, hotel and clinic/doctor’s fees for half of what the operation by itself would cost at home!
As with any medical procedure that you might have done in your home country, you should of course thoroughly research not only the costs of having cosmetic surgery overseas, but also the reputation and certifications of the clinic and doctors that you plan to use.
Also keep in mind that cosmetic surgery is a medical procedure, no matter how routine it has become and no matter where it is performed. Discuss your plans with your personal physician before booking a flight or putting down a payment for any plastic surgery abroad.
For many people, going abroad to have cosmetic work done will be the adventure of a lifetime–and, hopefully, a happy one. Just do your due diligence ahead of time if this is something you are thinking about.
